Dorte Mandrup, architect & professor. Founder and Creative Director at Dorte Mandrup A/S
Sustainability is to create something that is beyond a function. Something that strengthens the interconnectedness of people, place, history, materiality, and culture. It is based on contextual understanding, knowledge and a desire to give more back, than you take. In Ilulissat in Greenland, the arched roof of the Icefjord Centre is forming a gathering place and a shelter from the freezing winds in the infinite Arctic Landscape. On the rocky shores of Andøya a parabolic shell creates a public square over The Whale. And in Copenhagen a new IKEA city store will offer a rare spot of greenery in a dense industrial neighborhood. In this short talk, Dorte Mandrup will give an insight into some of her studios acclaimed work and how they connect to the unique conditions they arise from.
